Successful renovation Buitenhuizerbrug through collaboration between Vydraulics & SPIE Nederland

The scheduled maintenance, commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat, contributes to an overall improvement of the
safety and flow for road and water traffic in the province of North Holland of the Netherlands.

In an efficient manner and with minimal impact on this busy traffic network, the two cylinders of the bridge
have been replaced by two brand new cylinders. SPIE Nederland executed all logistics and operational
activities concerning the extraction and placement of the old and new cylinders.

Vremac, part of the Vydraulics group, has supplied the two new cylinders with a bore of 320 mm and a
stroke of 3400 mm. In addition, one of the used cylinders has been completely revised. This reviced cylinder has
now been stored as a spare cylinder in the equipment room of the bridge. A special skid was produced by
Vremac to extend the lifespan of the spare cylinder. This skid makes it possible to turn the cylinder
periodically to prevent the seals from leaking. All the cylinders have been produced, conserved, and
tested in-house.

In the coming decades, the new cylinders will perform optimally in all weather conditions. Vremac and
SPIE Nederland are currently working on the next assignment commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat,
maintenance of the sewer gates in IJmuiden.
